Visual Journal / Exploring Visual Language

I was unsure what to start drawing in my sketchbook, so I began by drawing objects around me (detailed in this post), and then I moved on to draw ingredients of the soup I'd recently made. It was a form of journalling and didn't require me to think too hard about what I thought I 'needed' to draw.

Then I moved on to draw what could be ingredients to a witch potion - since the story concept I have outlined will be about witches. I enjoyed using the page to draw various ephemera, but I wanted to experiment with how much detail I needed to put onto the page.

I began drawing potion bottles with a chunky posca marker, rather than a fine tipped pen as I was previously using. This forced me to consider the shapes of the object I wanted to draw and how it affected my perception of what 'looked' like a potion bottle.

I'm interested in exploring these concepts further. I'd like to draw out a potion ingredients page/zine as I think this will help immerse myself in the world of my graphic novel.
