Visual Journal / Contextual Reference

After recent discussions about long form / short form pieces of work, I've been thinking about what my final piece of work might look like. I've outlined that I would like to produce a graphic novel - which I would say is a long form piece of work. However, I may also explore a series of short form comics as I can see this being a very big project to undertake.

Heartstopper (Oseman, 2019) is a graphic novel that originated on Tumblr. Oseman would publish short form versions of the comics, and they are now presented as a long form graphic novel all together.

I really love that the pages aren't full of boxes or too much text. I think Oseman conveys the scenes and feelings really well by using the negative space and varying frames.

I have a tendency to get lost in the details of my work, so I'd like to try this approach and illustrate some short scenes of the story. It will help me to understand which key plot points actually need to be drawn, and what other parts the user might fill in for themselves.
