Midpoint tutorial feedback

We discussed some really useful points during this tutorial. I was feeling a little bit stuck on the allegory for my story, and I do think that although I have some ideas about this, I haven't made this clear enough or really explained why I want to explore these issues. As I find reflective writing such a useful tool, I'll set aside some time to do this and try to untangle some of my ideas.

I do feel more confident about the images I have been developing, but now I think I need to dive further into the theoretical aspect of comic construction. I have since looked at the Scott McCloud reference we mentioned in the session and found it really useful, but I think that there is more research for me to do.

We spoke about the issue of the "savior complex" and that my story kind of presents this narrative that the privileged woman and her friends save the poor people of the world. This is something that I want to investigate further, as I don't necessarily think this is where I want the story to go. I think perhaps I'd like to flip it so that the "savior" is actually people in the world that do not have magic. This could be fairly complicated to tackle, but I think it is important to do so.

My focus over the next couple of weeks will be;

-Continue to develop major project ideas and sequential panelling throughout the module
- Look to gather together pitch-deck and make this into a standalone presentation of key
elements. This could include: adding to your previous character sheets (with further turnarounds
and expressions) your synopsis, to include elements such as teaser imagery containing blurb that
could be used to promote and capture elements of the book within a snapshot (for postcards,
posters etc), key scenery and settings illustrated sheets, a book cover and example book formats.
- Continue to push the theoretical insights into your story
- Continue to look at developing ways of using the artwork you’ve made as part of self-promotion or
income through prints / merchandise etc and the platforms where you can share or sell these
- Do you want to explore web platforms for your story and profile? You Tube, Patreon, Webtoon,
Tapas might all be places to explore for you.
