Visual Identity: Research

 In order to plan how I will be developing my visual identity/branding, I will analyse the visual identities of a few practitioners whom I admire. This should give me a few ideas of platforms I can use and a method to objectively view my practice.

ELITHIEN

 

• Digital artist / illustrator - creates work primarily inspired by (or FOR) fantasy books

• Sells work through RedBubble, Etsy and Patreon

• Has collaborated with a few book subscriptions to create variant / limited edition covers for popular books

• Book merch includes bookmarks, playing cards, enamel pins and sleeves. 

• Has two brand identities; Elithien for artwork, Virgovvitch for online store

• Does not have a specific folio website that I can find

   

   

 

 BABS TARR

 

• Comic artist / illustrator - (Batgirl DC, Motor Crush Image Comics)

• Posts work regularly on instagram and uses this platform to tease exclusive Patreon work

• Patreon used to connect with different audience (for spicy content)

• Regularly tables at comic conventions with merch

• Releases limited product ranges (apparel, stickers and prints) through her webstore, UltraMelon

• Although she has a consistent visual identity, she seems to have created different “brands” for the different audiences of her work

   

   

   

  GRETEL LUSKY

  

   

  • Illustrator & Comic artist - previously worked as a Vis Dev artist and Character Designer in the animation industry

  • YouTube, Patreon, InPrint and online store

  • Regularly posts tips/process videos showing different tools/media

  • Only recently published her first graphic novel (Primer for DC in 2020) and is now working on other similar projects
