Some bad sketchbook pages

In the spirit of pushing myself out of my comfort zone, I pulled out some tools I don't have much experience with: gouache paint, watercolour pens, and a paint marker.

I felt frustrated with all of these pages. I found painting with gouache to be a very slow process (especially as I didn't plan much of what I was painting). I found that I lost interest very quickly and didn't want to refine it further. However, this could also be because I felt I didn't give myself enough direction on these pages. I haven't completely given up on gouache paint, but I am noting this down as an unsuccessful attempt. Next time I would like to explore a limited colour palette on a more refined drawing instead.

Hall, J. (2016) The Little Book of Crystals. London: Octopus Publishing Group Ltd.

Although I dislike these drawings, they did spark an idea for further exploration. I thought it might be interesting to produce a set of illustrations around herbs/plants or crystals commonly used in witchcraft and their "magical" properties.
